My Dental Coach: Pain in the Tooth?
Face it. Getting dentistry done can be painful, no matter how “painless” that dentist claims he or she is. Getting teeth filled, having root canals and getting your gums scraped are invasive procedures that indeed can range from mild sensitivity to excessive pain. Here are some things you can do to make your dental event more comfortable: • Take a mild pain reliever before you get to the office. Remember that aspirin may cause excessive bleeding so check with your dentist beforehand • Hold off on Vitamin C before your appointment. Vitamin C may reduce the effectiveness of the anesthetic • Drink plenty of water beforehand. Being well hydrated helps the anesthetic take effect • Ask the dentist to liberally apply topical anesthetics to help with mild irritations • Try some homeopathic remedies such as Traumeel, Arnica or Hypericum to reduce post operative pain and discomfort. Check with your healthcare practitioner • Take a lot of Vitamin C after your visit. It will help the numbness to subside • Stay away from extremes of temperature right after getting teeth worked on • Get back to the dentist if your filling, crown or bridge feels “high” or “out of the bite”. Constant abnormal pressure on a tooth may cause permanent damage to the nerve Ok, hope that helps.
