Trauma is the predominant etiology of TMJ problems
A legitimate TMJ disorder or dysfunction may go unrecognized especially if there is (as is often the case) a lack of bruises, hematoma, swelling, muscle spasms, or severe pain to the facial area at the time of medical evaluation.
Injury to the TMJ and surrounding tissues can result directly from the incident or as a latent development in the following injuries:
- Direct trauma to the face, head and jaws
- Cervical Whiplash
- Dental procedures
- Medical intubation
- Sexual abuse
- Accidents involving bone, muscle, or nerve injuries to the back, neck, shoulders, chest, hips, legs, or feet
Early diagnosis and referral for treatment for TMJ injury can eliminate excessive unnecessary medical and dental treatment and save the injured party years of needless suffering. Download the Whitepaper for further explanation.
